When Annabella was 5 to 6 months old, we noticed her head was getting a little flat on her right side. She has always slept on her back, and prefers to have her head turned to the right. So, her cute little head is sort of lopsided towards her left with a little bit of a flat spot behind her right ear (also known as plagiocephaly). Bless her little heart.
In all honesty, her head doesn't look too bad, but I don't think Annabella is ever going to sleep on her stomach, so I thought her head might get worse. We took her to see an orthotist, and he recommended a helmet, so here we are!

Annabella has done great with this transition. We weaned her into wearing the helmet (over a week), and now she wears it pretty much all day. Most importantly, she wears it while she sleeps too. I usually give her a break after she takes her naps and when she wakes up in the morning. She gets a little stinky and sweaty, but I can already tell there is improvement in the shape of her head.

For some reason, she reminds me of the princess from Voltron. Oh, our little Princess Bellie.
And in true Annabella fashion, now that we've spent mucho dinero on her helmet, she sleeps rolled to her left side. Doesn't that sound about right?

I was worried about this with Annabel too. When she was really little and still sleeping on her back, she always turned it to one direction (left I think). Nathan couldn't notice it, but I thought her head looked lopsided. So I switched the changing table, paid attention to the way I carried her, and put her down with her head turned the other way. Slowly she started to turn the other direction more. And then she started sleeping on her tummy and sides almost exclusively (I still always lay her down on her back but she pretty much flips immediately!). Sometimes I still notice it a little, but I'll wait to see if the doctor mentions it before I worry too much.
Glad AB is loving her helmet and tolerating it so well! She'll have a nice, round head in no time! :) Can't wait to see you guys!
